Judith Brown Guite, 85, of Newington, CT passed on Sunday, May 22, 2022 after a brief illness. Judy was a brave, strong, and exceptionally kind woman who lived a full life. She was an extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Judy was born March 3, 1937 to Edwin and Arline Brown in New Haven, CT. She graduated from Berlin High School in 1955 and from New Britain General Hospital’s nursing school in 1958. She married Donald Guite after graduation and together they raised their three children.
Judy had a gift for connecting with others. Her nursing career spanned nearly four decades and she was known for being both compassionate and practical. Joyful and generous, Judy was good at collecting new friends throughout her life. She always enjoyed inviting her friends over for coffee and conversation. A terrific cook and baker, she enjoyed sharing the bounty of her kitchen with others, especially her famous pies.
Judy loved theater, music, movies, and books. She was a quilter, amateur seamstress, and accomplished knitter. She particularly enjoyed the Knitter’s Group at Berlin-Peck Library and many have been enveloped in her knitted expressions of love. Judy will be remembered for her quick laugh and loyal friendship.
Judy is survived by her children: Mark and wife Linda Guite of Berlin; Heather and husband William Chapman of East Hampton; Holly Sturgill of Swanzey, NH; her grandchildren Ian Guite; and Mackenzie and Gavin Sturgill; her brother Scott Brown and his wife Ramona of Orange, MA; as well as many other extended family members.
Judy was predeceased by her parents Arline and Edwin Brown, husband Donald, sister Lynn France Reynolds, and nephew Ken France.
