Kathleen A. LaBarre (Marincsin), 78, of Southington, CT, passed away peacefully
on July 5th, 2021, at Gaylord Specialty Healthcare with her daughters by her
side. She fought courageously to overcome her illness with heart disease and
COPD.
Kathy was born in New Britain, CT in 1943, and lived in Southington for 55 years.
She worked in finance at Allstate Insurance Company in Farmington, CT, retiring
after many years of service. Kathy enjoyed Sunday dinners with her family and
weekend cookouts in the backyard where a wiffleball or kickball game would
undoubtedly ensue. She was an active member of the First Congregational
Church of Southington, knitting prayer shawls, coordinating weekly flowers for
church services, volunteering at coffee hour, the Apple Harvest Festival, and the
annual pancake breakfast and church tag sale. Kathy worked out daily with her
group of girlfriends at the YMCA and enjoyed coffee and conversation afterward.
She proudly wore her YMCA 100-mile walk t-shirt. She enjoyed the
casinos—taking trips with her sister Margaret to NJ and Las Vegas to try their
luck at the slot machines. Kathy was an avid gardener who took great pride in
keeping her yard looking like a park, weed and acorn free, but never chipmunk
free. She loved her grandchildren most of all and was sure to brag about all their
accomplishments every chance she got; SHE was their biggest cheerleader.
Kathy was preceded in death by her mother, Anastasia Marincsin, her husband,
Paul R. LaBarre, her sister, Margaret Matthews, and her daughter, Karrie
Marquez.
Kathy leaves behind her brother Joseph Marincsin (Nami), her children Amy
LaBarre (Melinda), Valerie Cahill (Eugene), and Jonathan LaBarre (Barbara),
nine grandchildren (Adam, Matthew, Aiden, Madilynn, Natalie, Sarah, Samantha,
Mollie, Myles), and six great-grandchildren, a dear niece Karen Masthay (Jon),
great-niece Lauren Masthay and son Weston, great-nephew Aaron Masthay
(Kara), and her dear friend Nancy (sister-friends till the end).
The family extends their sincere gratitude to the incredible staff at Gaylord
Specialty Healthcare and the ICU Hartford Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at the First Congregation Church of Southington,
37 Main Street, on Saturday, July 10th at 11 am. The family asks that in lieu of
flowers, donations can be made in Kathy’s memory to The American Heart
Association or Gaylord Specialty Healthcare, Wallingford, CT.
