Kathleen Heatherly, 77, of Hebron, Connecticut, passed away on June 25, 2025.

Born on November 1, 1947, Kathy was the daughter of Lawrence William Haggerty and Gladys Reynolds Haggerty. She was raised in Stamford, Connecticut where she graduated from Stamford High School in 1965. Kathy went on to earn her teaching degree from the University of Connecticut in 1969, and later completed her Master’s Degree there as well.

She was a devoted mother to her daughter, Amy (Shapazian) Hada, whom she raised with endless love. Later, she married the love of her life, Peter Heatherly, on August 8, 1998. Kathy and Peter’s story began at RHAM Senior High School in Hebron, Connecticut, where they both dedicated over 35 years to teaching. Kathy also served as President of the RHAM Education Association for decades during her teaching career. Beloved by students and colleagues alike, Kathy left a lasting impact in the classroom and beyond. Her commitment to her community extended well past the school walls—she volunteered with the Hebron Democratic Town Committee and served on the Hebron Zoning Board of Appeals. In recognition of her service, she was honored as Hebron’s Citizen of the Year in 2005. Outside of her professional and civic life, Kathy was an avid reader, and she found joy in cheering for the Boston Red Sox and the UConn Huskies basketball teams, doting on her cats, and cherishing the company of her friends.

She is survived by her husband Peter Heatherly, daughter Amy Hada, grandchildren Tyler and Daniel Hada, son in law Jason Hada, stepson Jim Heatherly, sister Carol Diamond, brother Bill Haggerty, sister in law Paulette Haggerty, sister Laurie Dolian, and brother in law Robert Dolian, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Lawrence William Haggerty and Gladys Reynolds Haggerty.

A  celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Protectors of Animals. https://poainc.networkforgood.com/projects/249078-cheers-to-50-years

Kathy Heatherly will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
