Kirk E. Pearson

Kirk E Pearson of East Haddam, CT passed away on August 21st, 2023, at the age of 70 after a brief and difficult battle with brain cancer. He died peacefully with his family by his side.

Originally from South Carolina, Kirk grew up playing tennis, football, and surfing. During his college years he found his way onto the southern rock music scene, touring with bands and setting up sound equipment. In his thirties, he moved to Connecticut where he met his wife of 36 years Jayne Bartkowski Pearson. Kirk transformed his passion for tennis into a career as a tennis club professional and a team coach. Active from the time he was young, Kirk also enjoyed skiing in Vermont, teaching lessons, and was even a skiing mascot, cheddar the mouse. Kirk was known for his ability to liven up a room, chat up every person at the party, and always had a joke, a quip, or a wisecrack at the ready. An encyclopedia of all things music and sports, it was impossible to beat him in a game of “name that tune”.

In recent years he developed a love for fishing on Bashan Lake, where you could find him sitting in his chair at the end of the dock. Kirk loved a part time gig and spent the past few years dog sitting in the area. He spent much of the past year researching energy efficiency, solar panels, and mechanical systems with his son to design an efficient and cost-effective home for his family. His family and friends will miss his clever mind and witty banter.

He is survived by his wife Jayne, son Stephen, daughter Kelsey, and son-in-law Mike Brancoforte, his mother-in-law Geraldine Bartkowski, sister-in-law Lynne and brother-in-law Jim Frick, nieces Emily Frick, Sarah Frick, and Cassie Manning, and nephews Chris Cox and John Cox. He is predeceased by his mother and father Helen and Herb Pearson and his father-in-law Steve Bartkowski.

A gathering to remember Kirk will be held at the family’s home on Friday September 1st, 2023, from 2-6pm. Please contact a family member if you need additional details.

Donations can be made to The Bashan Lake Association in Kirk’s name for the preservation of the lake where he loved to fish.
