“Kristi” began an exciting journey on the morning of July 2, 2022.
She was born September 1, 1961 and was found under a toadstool as she once stated. This was the beginning of an amazing life.
Her birthplace was Oneida, N.Y., a beautiful daughter to Marcia Mary McGranaghan and James Edward Bortle. The youngest sister to sister Jerri Regan and brother James “Jeb” Bortle.
In 1994 a new family began by her marriage to Richard Zawacki of Oakdale, CT along with the birth of their two sons. Nathan Alexander, his wife Kira Ryan, granddaughter Lila Rae of Oakdale, CT, and Colin James, his wife Ria Alvaren of Portsmouth, VA.
Kristin was a graduate of Manlius-Pebble Hill School, Dewitt, NY and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Civil and Environmental degree from Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY. She was a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Connecticut.
She started her career with Kiewit Eastern Company and continued with the Connecticut Water Company, Connecticut Department of Transportation, Santoro Construction, NH Bettigole Consultants, KTA-Tator Inc. Coating Consultants, and the Town of Waterford, CT retiring in 2017 as their Director of Public Works.
For enjoyment, Kristin was a member of the Galloping Gourmets and Ladies & Gents horse riding associations. These groups regularly camped with their horses sharing the excitement of trail riding.
A Memorial Service will be held for Kristi on Saturday, July 9th, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 248 Broadway, Norwich CT.
