Lawrence W. Dennis, 87, of Haddam, beloved husband of the late Venita Lynn Dennis, died July 28, 2021. Born on November 7, 1933 in Minneapolis, MN, he was the son of the late Donald A. and Mary Ruth Dennis.
He was a graduate of Marshalltown High in 1951 and Marshalltown Junior college in 1953. Served in the Army from 1953-55, and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1957. He was Sports Editor of the Times-Republican in the Midwest, winding up as Editor of The Hollister Newspapers in suburban Chicago. He founded his own company Creative Communications in 1986 in Huntington, CT. In1992 he became the founding editor of Senior Golfer magazine. He was a winner of numerous awards for his writings on golf. Among those being the 1989 USGA International Book of the Year for Golf’s Magnificent Challenge with famed golf course architect Robert Trent Jones. He published or edited more than 20 books. He was a brother of the Marshall Lodge No. 108 and a member of the Iowa Golf Hall of Fame.
Larry is survived by sister, Mary Jo Bousek, and his three children, daughters Kathy McGee Larche and her husband Kevin, Valerie Nuzzo and her husband David, and son Donald Dennis. He has four grandchildren, Nicole McGee, Dean Dennis, Alexia Dennis and LeAnn Dennis and two great grandchildren, Arielle McGee Robles and Carter Dennis, also several nephews.
