Scotland - Lillian Peace Shafer, of Palmer Road, surrounded by family was welcomed home by her Savior on December 8, 2021. She was born November 11, 1940, in Queens, NY to William and Aleta (Galloway) Kuusela.
Lillian married Frederick Allen, Jr. in 1958 and to both was born Lori and Bill.
Lillian met Willis in 1965 and blended their families. They together raised hers, his and their children in Scotland. Their home was always open for family and friends to rest and enjoy their friendship and Lil’s cooking.
Lillian was a faithful member of Christian Life Assembly that served wherever she was needed. She worked with her husband on the family farm, drove truck for the family business and was involved in many pursuits that always brought her closer to the communities she served. For many years she worked with young people through 4-H cooking clubs, recreation committees, VBS programs and the Missionette Girls program at Christian Life Assembly in Willimantic. She served with Full Gospel Business Men & was President of Women’s Aglow Ministries for many years. Lillian could always be found serving in kitchens at church functions along with using her gifted sewing abilities. The greatest legacy she leaves are her children, 19 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and their spouses and 1 great great grandchild.
She was predeceased by her husband Willis, her parents, baby sister Denise, sister Aleta Hurtekant, twin sister Josephine Spellmon, grandson Andrew Raymond, son-in-law Bruce Barlow and son Bill Allen.
She is survived by her brother Bill Kuusela of Lisbon, brother in law Pete Spellmon of Killingly,sister in law Dawn Fleming (Chuck) of Portsmouth, NH, her son Raymond (Debra) Shafer, their children; Jennifer, Tim & Kaitlyn, and Casey & Dani along with their children. Her daughter, Lori Allen Barlow, her children Joshua & Angela, Sarah & Jake, Faith & Josh along with their children and Matthew. Her son Bill’s wife Jude Allen, their children, Crystal & Mike, Clinton & Jessica and their children, Cassidy and Melissa. Her son, Paul (Karen) Shafer, their children Rachel & Colton and Nash. Her daughter, Heather (Doug) O’Connor and their children Danielle, Justin and Janna. Her son, Jeffrey Shafer and his children, Moriah (Christopher) and Rebecca (Tylor.) As well as, some very special nephews, nieces, adopted sons and daughters, and her family at CLA.
There will be a joint memorial service to honor both Willis & Lillian’s lives on January 8, 2022 at 2PM at Christian Life Assembly, 143 Windham Road, Willimantic, CT.
