Lois Esther Woodin, 94, originally from Bethel, CT, passed away Monday, July 12, 2021 in Waterbury CT, where she lived with her daughter Betty, who took loving care of her and was by her side until the end. Lois was born November 18, 1926, the daughter of Henry Percival and Esther (Johnson) Whittlesey. Lois attended Bethel schools and worked well into her 70s at Danbury Hospital.
Lois was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and person who appreciated all that life had to offer. She was a hard worker and loved traveling, especially to see the ocean. She was an avid reader and an expert in the art of embroidery. Her natural disposition was sweet and loving, and she always enjoyed a good time.
Lois is survived by her seven children – William Woodin (Bill), New Milford CT; Diane Miller (Joe Clark), Bethel, CT; Elizabeth Lee (Betty), Waterbury CT; Kathleen Zadora, Waterbury CT; Richard (Sharon) Woodin, Murrells Inlet, SC; Elaine (Chris) Haggerty, Woodbury CT, and Sherry (Brad) Ludovicy, New Milford, CT. Lois is also survived by her grandchildren – William (Dorothy) Woodin, Stephen (Wendy) Woodin; David Kargle, Kevin Kargle; Kristy (Frank) Zadora, Anne Zadora, Elizabeth Zadora; Jessica (Matt) Woodin, Amanda Woodin, Heather (Chris) Malcolm; Gregory Russo, Cory Russo; Guy Treszi, and Kayla Ludovicy. Lois was the proud great-grandmother of seven great-grandchildren. Lois is also survived by her sisters-in-laws, Elizabeth Woodin and Johanna Whittlesey, and many nieces and nephews.
Lois was predeceased by her sister Lillian Torres and brother Robert Whittlesey.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Philip Mongelluzzo, Jr, and the staff at Care Beyond Medicine, and all of the nurses from VITAS Hospice that cared for Lois. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate in Lois’s memory to Danbury Animal Welfare Society (DAWS) at daws.org.
A celebration of life will be held at a later time at the convenience of the family.
