Lori Ann (Long) Ruehle

Updated: Nov 20, 2025

February 18, 1969 – November 14, 2025

Lori Ann (Long) Ruehle of Danielson, Connecticut, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones after courageously battling bilateral frontal dementia with aphasia and brain encephalitis for many years. Though her illness slowly took her words and memories, it never dimmed her warmth, kindness, or the deep love she shared with everyone who knew her.

Born in Putnam, Connecticut, on February 18, 1969, Lori grew up in Danielson, where she spent countless joyful days swimming in the family pool and making cherished memories with her sisters. She was active in her high school marching band and played tennis, always bringing her laughter and enthusiasm wherever she went.

After graduating, Lori attended Johnson & Wales University, where she earned her culinary degree and met the love of her life, Michael Ruehle. The two shared 35 wonderful years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and devotion.

Lori had many passions throughout her life. She loved scrapbooking, collecting salt and pepper shakers, and was a devoted fan of The Wizard of Oz. She was deeply involved in Relay for Life, where she not only participated for many years in honor of her beloved Memere, but also helped organize the event annually. Lori proudly led her own dedicated team each year, walking in memory of her Memere and inspiring others with her compassion and commitment to the cause.

Lori never missed her daily walks with her much-loved dog, Miley, finding peace and happiness in those moments together. Some of her fondest memories were made at the campground, where she loved spending time with her dad, sisters, children, nieces, and nephews—laughing, relaxing, and enjoying the simple joys of being together.

Above all, Lori adored her family. She leaves behind her husband, Michael Ruehle of Danielson, CT; her children, Stephanie Ruehle and fiancé Peter Haslam of Danielson, CT, and Charles Ruehle of Danielson, CT; and her treasured granddaughter, Louise (“Lulu”), who brought her endless joy and pride in her later years as “Memere.” She is also survived by her loving mother, Sandra Long of Putnam, CT; her sisters, Michele Sabourin and husband Rick of Danielson, CT, and Holly Barnhart and husband Dustin of Yukon, OK; along with many nieces and nephews who adored her.

Lori was predeceased by her father, Allen Long of Danielson, CT; her maternal and paternal grandparents; and her much-loved niece, Rebecca Rioux.

Those who knew Lori will remember her for her gentle heart, her creativity, and her ability to make everyone feel loved and welcomed. Her beautiful spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

A Memorial Service will be held on December 13, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Briarwood Falls Community Center, located at 18 Mockingbird Drive, Danielson, CT. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
