Margaret “Jane” Vollrath, 77, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 14th, 2024, surrounded by her children, Sean and Ryan, and close friend and family pastor, Sherry Elliott at Middlesex Hospital, in Middletown, CT from acute heart disease. Her final days were spent with her family and close friends in the hospice and comfort care unit of the hospital, where she maintained her outgoing, kind, politely sassy, and quick humored nature through her final moments.
Jane was born on December 27th, 1946, in Philadelphia Pa, to Phillys McDermott Soisson and John Soisson and was primarily raised in Malvern, Pa. She was a graduate of Great Valley High School and later earned a degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Dental Hygiene. Equally kind as she was tough, Jane was an unwaveringly dedicated mother and balanced a successful career as a full-time dental hygienist with being a single mother to her two children, Sean and Ryan. She would often fondly mention that her greatest achievement in life was not degrees or professional accolades but was raising her children in a house full of love anchored by old-fashioned values, while providing them with a sound education and every opportunity to succeed in life. Touching countless lives around her as a loyal friend to many, Jane lived in Wayne, Pa. for 35 years where her door was always open and her home on St. Davids Ave was usually the vibrant center of neighborhood activity, where everyone was always welcome to stop in for lunch, a cup of coffee, a hug and kind listening ear, or most frequently just a warm smile and a laugh. Jane was a lifelong animal lover, and never had a home without a small assortment of pets which she lovingly cared for. A dedicated, and occasionally fierce ice hockey mother, the weekends typically found Jane happily shuttling Sean and Ryan and their friends to ice rinks around the Philadelphia area and later traveling far and wide to proudly watch them play at the collegiate level.
In 2006, Jane met Dan Vollrath, remarried, and moved to Ocala, Florida. They enjoyed every moment of their retired lives together, traveling the country together in their motor home. Jane lived in Ocala for nearly 20 years until, after Dan’s passing, she eventually moved to Connecticut, to be closer to her children and grandchildren. It was at this later stage of life that Jane found her second calling as a grandmother, known simply as beloved “Jaja” to her six grandchildren. Jane was a doting grandmother as she continued to fill the family was love and laughs and would often take her grandchildren on her “Jaja dates” where she would of course spoil them with toys and sweets.
Jane was predeceased by her brother John Soisson and sister Mary-Caroline Carr, and is survived by her sister Ellen Fleming, son Sean Waters (wife Juliana), daughter Ryan Roth (husband Preston), stepson Paul Vollrath (wife Pam), six grandchildren, Peyton, Annalise, Reese, Taryn, Jacob, Jackson, and step granddaughter Lauren as well as her faithful companion, German Shepard, Izzy.
Jane’s family and friends will honor her with a celebration of life and memorial to be held at Glenwood Memorial Gardens and Cemetery in Broomall, Pa. at 11:00am on April 13th, 2024.
