Margaret Wylie Gillespie

Limestone, ME – Margaret W. Gillespie, 85, wife of Peter H. Gillespie, passed away peacefully on Tuesday afternoon, July 11th, 2023 at her daughter’s home in Norwich, CT. The daughter of Alexander and Doris (Ritchie) Wylie, she was born on December 25th, 1937 in Perth Andover, New Brunswick, Canada. For 30 years, Margaret was an Education Technician, specializing in Special Education grades K-6 at the Limestone Schools. She was a charter member of the Limestone Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi since 1973, as well as a member of the National Wildlife Federation and SPCA. An avid parishioner of the Limestone United Methodist Church, she volunteered her time with kids and outdoor activities (such as the World Cup Biathlon races and the Nordic Heritage). She enjoyed birding, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing, but she was happiest at her beloved cottage on Rayworth Beach, NB where she introduced many to s’mores, her famous popsicles, and her fabulous cooking!

Margaret was predeceased by her parents, Alexander & Doris (Ritchie) Wylie, her siblings, D. Marilyn Wylie, Eleanor W. Mazerolle, Donald Wylie, Katherine Reese, and her beloved sister-in-law, Helen G. Bubar.

She is survived by her husband, Peter H. Gillespie, her children, John H. Gillespie, P. Andrew Gillespie and his wife Sokie West Gillespie, and Krista G. Newsome and her husband Robert A. Newsome. She also leaves behind her five grandchildren: Shane A. Gillespie, Megan E. Gillespie, Austin R. Newsome, Alexandra D. DiPietro, and Abigail L. Feder-Craney; along with her step-grandson, Jona West, and two great-granddaughters, Josephine S. Showalter, and Lorelei G. Showalter.
