Margarita Matias Sanchez

August 6, 1956 – August 4, 2026

Margarita Matias Sanchez, beloved daughter, wife, mother and grandmother, of Wethersfield, CT passed away peacefully at Hartford Hospital on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at the age of 69, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by family and loved ones. 

Born on August 6, 1956 in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, Margarita was the beloved daughter of Obdulio Matias and Julia Sanchez.  She grew up in Rio Piedras.

Throughout her life, Margarita was known for her kindness, generosity and sense of humor.  She enjoyed cooking and baking and cherished time spent with family and friends. 

Margarita is survived by her husband, Juan Pomales, children, Luis A. Rosario, Alex O. Rosario, Ali X. Pomales and grandchildren, Mia C. Rosario and Antonio J. Rosario and sister, Ana Matias of Carolina, Puerto Rico and many nieces and nephews, extended family members and dear friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Obdulio Matias Hernandez in 2009, Julia Sanchez in 2008 and sibling, Jose Luis Matias in 2025.

The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to the medical staff of Hartford Hospital and Hartford Healthcare Hospice.

A private memorial service will be held on Friday 8/21/26 at 12:00PM at Cedar Hill Cemetery at 453 Fairfield Avenue in Hartford, CT.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society in Margarita’s memory.

Though Margarita is no longer with us, her love, compassion and the memories shared with family and friends will remain in our hearts forever.
