Mary B. Boyd 1930-2020

Updated: Dec 7, 2020

Mary Beverly Boyd, "MeMom", 90, of Bolton, entered the Lord's Kingdom peacefully at home with family on Wednesday, November 25, 2020.

She was born in Syracuse, New York on March 7, 1930. Mary, known to her friends and family as Bev or MeMom, settled in Connecticut with her husband Ray in the early 1950's where they raised their four children in Bolton. They moved to Vernon, CT for 17 years and were so happy to return to Bolton in the home their son built for them in 2000. Bev worked at Three J's Cafe and Allen's Food Market in her early years in town, but her proudest "job" was that of a mom. Her home was always open if you needed a place to stay or just a quick visit and a cup of coffee. Family gatherings were frequent whether there was a specific celebration or not. Just being together was always reason enough. Bev was a strong minded, loving woman who taught her children the value of hard work, truthfulness and respect. One of her greatest lessons, however, was teaching her children, grandchildren and her many Sunday School students the love of Jesus. She was a great witness to His love and lived it faithfully each and every day. She loved music, dancing (the Hokey Pokey was a favorite) and the outdoors whether it was walking the beaches on Anna Maria Island, camping in the New England woods, or enjoying the native birds that she loved to feed on her back deck. She even took joy in chasing away that pesky "Johnny Squirrel" and his friends. She and PopPop would often spend Sunday afternoons sitting on their front porch listening to the love songs of the 50's holding hands for hours. Theirs was a love truly made in heaven. Bev never let the trials of life get her down and even when her eyesight and body failed her in the last few years, she got up everyday with a grateful heart, giving thanks for another day to enjoy. She really was a wonderful woman who found great joy in the most simple moments of the day.

One seldom left her home without being asked "You know what?" and the response, of course, was always "I love you". Well MeMom, we do love you and will miss you terribly, but the family rejoices knowing you are reunited with the love of your life. Give him hugs and kisses from all of us..........God is good, all the time!

She is survived by her loving sister and best friend, Betty Ward (Bolton); her brother Harold McConnell and his wife Charlotte (Gouveneur, NY); her four children, daughter Wendy and husband Bill Robbins (Willington, CT); son Raymond Jr. and wife Lori (Bolton, CT); son Gary and partner Johnny Rocha (Pawtucket, RI); daughter Joyce and husband Sam Bastarache (Vernon, CT/Anna Maria Island, FL); seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; many other beloved family members; and her brothers and sisters in faith from Mt. Zion Church.

The family is most grateful that they were able to keep MeMom at home and would like to express their great appreciation and gratitude to her many caregivers and the VNA staff, in particular to Sharon and Dorothy.

Memorial gifts may be made in Bev's memory to the VNA of Vernon, CT.

There will be no immediate services. As requested by Bev, the family will hold a joint Celebration of Life for both she and Ray when it is safe to do so.

If you have a favorite memory or a kind word to share with the family, please address them to the Boyd Family, 36 Box Mountain Rd., Bolton, CT 06043.
