MARY E. HEALY

Mary Eleanor Healy, 92, of Gales Ferry, formerly of Boston, MA, passed away December 18 at Lawerence Memorial Hospital in New London.

She was born March 14, 1931 in Jamaica Plain, Boston, daughter of Edward Pope and Marguerite Mcquire.

Mary attended high school in Jamaica Plain and earned an Associates degree in accounting from Burdett Business College in Boston MA.  She was married to the late Joseph L. Healy, who pre-deceased her.  She was an accountant for over 40 years and owned her own accounting business.

Survivors include three sons (Brian Healy, Bruce Healy, and Brent Healy), seven grandchildren (Jennifer Ficke, Zachary Healy, Christopher Healy, Megan Healy, Carina Healy, Elana Healy and Niamh Healy) and one great grandchild (Mark Ficke).  As a parent, Mary was a shining example of love, patience, and selflessness. She poured her heart and soul into raising her children, instilling in them the values of kindness, forgiveness, and empathy.

Mary was a devoted follower of Christ, and her faith was the guiding light that illuminated her path throughout life.   Mary sang in the choir for over 50 years.  Mary was a pillar of strength and support to her community.  She was an EMT+ Advanced in the Ledyard Volunteer Emergency Service for over 20 years, director for two terms and received the prestigious Harry DeCantillion award.

Mary was known for her random acts of kindness. Whether it was helping an elderly neighbor with household chores, visiting the local nursing home, or simply lending a listening ear to a friend going through a difficult time, Mary consistently went above and beyond to show love and compassion to those around her.

In her own words, “She was the lady that cared”

Contributions may be made in her memory to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
