Melissa Hopkins Turnbull

Melissa Hopkins Turnbull, 74, of Milford, Connecticut, beloved wife of the late James Glass Turnbull, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2026.

Born on May 6, 1952, in St. Louis, Missouri, Melissa was the daughter of Dollie Hopkins and the late Robert Hopkins.

Melissa is survived by her loving children: James Turnbull; Kate Fisher, her husband Sean, and Alexandra Jurczyk, her husband Matthew, and soon-to-arrive Oliver. She is also survived by her sister, Robin Callahan, and nieces Susannah and Brooke.

To most people, Melissa was known as an extraordinary chef and baker. Alongside her husband Jim, she helped build and run the family catering company that proudly bore her name. 

Whether she was preparing elegant meals for clients or creating over-the-top desserts for a PTA meeting, school celebration, or Girl Scout gathering, Melissa showed her love through food. She had a gift for making ordinary occasions feel special and never missed an opportunity to add a little extra sweetness to someone's day.

Melissa also had a flair for celebrating. From birthday parties complete with ponies and salon makeovers to sporting events and family gatherings, she delighted in creating memorable experiences for the people she loved.

She found great joy in simple pleasures as well—a sunny day at the beach, a captivating book, and summer vacations spent in beach houses overflowing with family, friends, laughter, and sandy footprints. Those summers created memories that her family will cherish forever.

Melissa's family will remember her wonderful sense of humor—particularly the fact that she rarely laughed at a joke unless it was truly, undeniably funny. Earning one of her laughs was considered quite an accomplishment and always felt like a special reward.

Above all else, Melissa loved her family with her whole heart. Her generosity, warmth, and unwavering devotion shaped the lives of those around her. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever celebrated by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
