Melissa Julia Hafey

Melissa Julia Hafey, 35, of Hartford, CT, passed away unexpectedly on August 7, 2024, leaving a profound void in the hearts of those who loved her. She was born in Hartford, CT, on November 9, 1988, to Charles and Cheryl (Labati) Hafey.  Melissa grew up in Glastonbury, CT.

As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate the joy and vibrant spirit she brought into our lives. From a young age, Melissa was full of life and energy, excelling in creative arts and athletics, showcasing talents in pottery and crocheting, weightlifting and snowboarding. She was the kind of person who leaves a permanent imprint on your life and who would draw you in with her ineffable laugh, witty humor, and passion. She was the kind of person you are lucky to meet once in a lifetime.

One of Melissa's earliest and enduring passions was horseback riding. Fearless and talented, she handled even the most rambunctious horses with grace. Her bond with her beloved pony, Juniper, exemplified her ability to tame the wild. The challenge made it all that more exciting to her. She had an uncanny ability to extract the good in what others perceived as damaged or difficult. Melissa pursued a variety of passions and careers, embracing roles that brought her joy. She was a certified personal trainer, a skilled bartender, a savvy freelancer, and an aspiring entrepreneur with dreams of rehabbing and flipping houses, turning the broken into something beautiful. Recently she was studying for her Commercial Driving License, eager to explore uncharted parts of the country.

Melissa’s beauty was immediately apparent, but it was her personality that truly set her apart. She was fearless, resourceful, loving, passionate, funny, intelligent, and unapologetically authentic. Her candid and genuine nature made it easy for people to connect with her and feel seen. Melissa could see beyond conventional norms, envisioning a world that was more inclusive and truer to who we are as individuals. Her spirit will remain with those who knew her, a reminder of the beauty and light she brought into their lives.

She is survived by her parents, Cheryl and Charles Hafey; her sister, Caroline (Hafey) Beausoleil and her husband, Ryan Beausoleil; her aunt Lynn and uncle John Bausch; as well as her other aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, all of whom cared deeply for her.

Donations can be made in Melissa's memory to The Underground, New England at www.theundergroundne.org.
