Michael J. Figueiredo Sr.

1970–2026

Michael “Mike” Figueiredo Sr., 55, passed away on January 24, 2026, after a sudden and way-too-brief battle with cancer.

Mike was born on August 23, 1970. He was a man who genuinely loved the simple things: a well-maintained engine, a quiet spot on the water, and the latest piece of technology. A dedicated part of the Berlin Public Schools custodial team, Mike loved his job making sure children have safe and well-maintained spaces to learn. He was a fixture of kindness in those halls, a genuinely kind person who was always ready to help anyone with anything.

Mike's heart really belonged to his "chosen family," the massive network of friends he built at the Cadillac Ranch. Mike was at his happiest when he was outdoors or on the move. You could usually find him in his Toyota Tacoma (the "Taco"), kayaking, fishing, spending a weekend away at a ranch, or heading off to the next NASCAR race. When he wasn't on the road, he was a lifelong Star Wars fan who always found a little adventure in the stories he loved.

He was also fiercely proud of his Portuguese heritage. Mike had been planning to get a traditional Portuguese Rooster tattoo as a symbol of pride for his family and his history, though he never quite got around to it.

He is survived by his son, Michael Jr.; his mother, Maria Adelaide Homen; his brother, Steven; and his niece, Rebecca. He also leaves behind his cherished fur family: Biaggio, Diana, and Linda. Mike is now off to join his dog, Bailey, who he cherished as a sidekick.

A regular Sunday Mass will be held in Mike's honor on February 8th, 2026 at 11:45 am at Our Lady of Fatima Church (50 Kane Street, Fatima Square, Hartford, CT 06106). Please note that this is not a formal funeral service, but a time for the community to gather and remember him during the liturgy.

We are planning a Celebration of Life for August 2026 to coincide with what would have been his 56th birthday. Please hold off on sending any flowers or favors until then, so we can all celebrate his memory properly together. More details will be posted on social media this spring.

Please reach out and share your contact information to be invited to the celebration, along with any photos or memories, to RememberMrFig70@gmail.com.

May the Force be with him, always.

I remember looking up in shock when Mike handed me a present the last day before Christmas break. Here I was just trying to get to the end of the day and start break and this guy had taken the time to buy and WRAP presents for the 9 of us! Throughout the time I knew him he was like that, always wanting to look out for the team. He was having surgery in August and hoping he wouldn't be out for more than a day or two so the rest of us wouldn't be inconvenienced! He was an inspiring figure in this aspect and made me think, I hope I'm that tough when I'm in my 50s. Mike's wide…

Mike was one of my favorite North Carolina Stroll partners. It’s time you show heaven your great dance moves. Your smile will be missed on the dance floor!

Seeing Mike's smiling face at the Ranch was always one of my favorite things. We loved chatting about Corvettes, NASCAR, and guns. He loved life and I loved that about him. He is truly one of the most genuine people I've ever met. You will be missed, Mike!

Mike brother, we grew up close together and we ran around mill woods together. I am so sorry you had to say goodbye so early. That shit is not fair. I hope for peace and ease for your family at this difficult time.
