Mildred Crawford, age 100, of New Haven, CT, reunited with our Almighty father in heaven on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at Yale New Haven Hospital.
Born May 26, 1921 in New Haven, CT to her parents Robert and Florence Green Bates. Mildred was pre-deceased by her loving husband, Isaac Crawford, and siblings, Bernell Bates and Roberta Williams.
Mildred attended New Haven public schools, graduating from James Hillhouse High School in 1939. She was a longtime employee of Winchester Repeating Arms Co. where she met her future husband Isaac Crawford. Issac asked repeatedly if he could share a bench where she ate lunch until one day, she finally said "yes!”
Mildred retired from Winchester Arms after the birth of her only son, Steven, who surprisingly made his debut on her 40th birthday! Elated to be a mom, Mildred decided to become a full-time homemaker.
An avid baker, she filled her home with the sights and smells of pies and cakes, complimented on weekends by Ike's Sunday morning pancakes.
Mildred enjoyed being a mother and soon after, became a grandmother to her only granddaughter, Shayla. Mildred equally enjoyed being a grandmother as she taught Shayla how to cook some of her delicious recipes, as well as reading to her and sharing many sweet stories. Mildred celebrated her 100th birthday on May 26th this year and became ill a few weeks after.
Mildred leaves to mourn her son, Steven I. Crawford, granddaughter, Shayla (Stephen) Ross and a beautiful great-granddaughter Payton Madilyn Ross. Mildred has a host of friends and family who misses her dearly already. She was truly a gem!
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, September 18th, 10am at Beaverdale Memorial Park in Hamden, CT.
Dear Mildred was my great cousin, daughter of my grand mother’s sister. I only met her once but always cherished the idea of her and our family connection. Many prayers for the progress of your soul in this transition and that your reunion with our significant others is a marvelous one. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
