Nancy Mikkelson was born on 9/21/39 to Carribelle and Anthony Mondani. She was born and raised in Westbrook, and salt water flowed through her veins. She was a 1957 graduate of Morgan High School.
Nancy had many jobs over her lifetime, but her favorite was as a dental assistant at the Middletown health clinic, where she offered care and dignity to patients in need.
Nancy had a great, and often self deprecating sense of humor. She had strong opinions and a stronger will. She had many friends from all stages of her life, and was an excellent neighbor. She enjoyed reading, talking with friends and her sisters, traveling, and a good swim at high tide. She was a good cook, and loved her craft projects. She enjoyed being a grandparent; attending Little League games, concerts, recitals, and plays. She loved hosting extended family for the Niantic Light Parade, providing food and fun, activities for the kids, and always a “guess the theme” Christmas.tree.
Nancy was predeceased by her husband of more than 50 years, Bob Mikkelson, her nephew and frequent lunch companion, David White, and her big brother, Gene Mondani. She is survived by her sisters Hilma, Brenda, and Jill (Jack); her children Mark (Krista), Mike (Diane) and Heidi (John) as well as step children Bruce, Bonnie, Brian, and Beth. She is survived by grandchildren Brett, Sarah, Lauren, Leah, Colin, Cian, and Aimee, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and step grandchildren.
Nancy had a passion for giving back, whether baking cookies to thank a neighbor or a delivery person, volunteering with Care and Share, or mailing a pick me up package to one of her family members. She requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Shriners Hospital. (Donate.shrinerschildrens.org)
Nancy requested that services be private. If you would like to honor her, you can drop off food to a pantry, take a meal to a neighbor, take the trip of a lifetime, or take a dip at high tide. The family wishes to thank the staff at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital, the nurses at Yale Health at Home Hospice, her wonderful neighbors who always helped her, and her caregiver, Cherrie.
