1954-2025

Griswold – Nancy (Marcotte) Pollard, 71, passed away at Hartford Hospital with her family by her side Wednesday, August 6, 2025. She is predeceased by her husband of nearly 38 years, David “Skip” Pollard, and her loving daughter, April McNally Day (James). Nancy’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and support staff at Hartford Hospital SICU for the exceptional care she received during her time there.
Nancy was born February 28, 1954, in Willimantic, CT, daughter of the late John and Florence Marcotte. Nancy leaves 2 sons: Jim McNally (Corinna) of Preston, CT and David E. Pollard (Kimberly) of Burke, VA. Nancy also leaves 2 grandchildren, Amber Suggs (Randall) and Jimmy McNally (Skyla); 3 great grandchildren, Myles, Elijah, and Emma; and an extended family of friends, co-workers, and community members whom she loved dearly.
Nancy worked in retail for over 35 years in the Griswold area – at Ames, Kohl’s, and Ocean State Job Lot. She was a dedicated employee and a staple in the community. Whether it was because of her later years in retail or the earlier years spent helping out at the Little League fields, Rec Center, and school activities, she was always struck by how often someone would approach her with a smile and say, “hey, I know you!” She loved having that connection with people. Nancy also loved her family – more than life itself. She cherished every card, phone call, video chat, visit, and even Facebook message. She loved giving gifts and helping friends whenever she could. Her family learned not to give her gift cards for holidays or special occasions because she would never use them on herself. Nancy loved Christmas too, and looked forward to spoiling her children and grandchildren every year. She had a heart of gold and couldn’t pass up a fundraiser, donation box, toy drive, or fireman’s boot without making a contribution – often being more generous than she could afford to be. She will be remembered for her selflessness and generosity.
A Graveside Service is planned for Nancy on Saturday, September 20th at 11:00a.m., at Pachaug Cemetery in Griswold, CT; followed by a Joint Celebration of Life for Nancy and her daughter April at the American Legion Post 15 in Jewett City, CT. A nonprofit is being established in Nancy’s name: Nancy’s Toy Drop. In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored to have an inaugural donation made to the organization (details to follow).
