Neil Jorgensen 1954-2022

Neil Jorgensen, age 68, passed away peacefully with family beside him at Backus Hospital in Norwich, CT on August 6, 2022. He was undergoing treatment for lung cancer, which had metastasized, proving fatal. He was born in Springfield, MA on February 15, 1954. He attended Classical High School there and graduated in 1972. Neil was a machinist by trade and had been employed by Smith & Wesson, Electric Boat, Ozone Industries and Triumph Activation Systems, from which he recently retired.

Neil was predeceased by his wife Mary (Bessette) only three months earlier after providing her with constant and loving care during a prolonged illness. Neil is survived by his brother Harvey Jorgensen, sister-in-law Marilyn King-Jorgensen of Carolina, RI and their four children Douglas, Rachel, Jesse and AnnaFaith. He is also survived by Mary's two children, Robyn Lopez of North Smithfield, RI and Craig Bessette of Baltic CT. Neil is survived by three of his wife's sisters, Barbara Lincoln of North Stonington, CT, Karen Franklin of North Smithfield, RI and Brenda Lee of Seattle, WA. He is survived as well by Mary's grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In better times Neil was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, target shooting and riding his ATV on trails through his wooded property. He was an animal lover and over the years, faithfully kept and cared for several dogs and cats. Neil enjoyed spending time with friends, of which there were many. He was a thirty year member of the Sprague Rod & Gun Club. He will be sorely missed.

There are no calling hours. There will be a celebration of his life at some point in the near future. Memorial donations payable to HHCAH, can be made to hospice care at:
