Nina Frances (Berube) Karash

December 3, 1948 - September 15, 2021


Nina (Berube) Karash, 72, of South Broad Street, Pawcatuck, CT passed away peacefully after a brief illness on September 15, 2021 at Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, CT with her daughter at her side.


Nina was born December 3, 1948 in Westerly, RI to Frances (Ingham) and George C. Berube. She was a 1966 graduate of Westerly High School. She spent her summers growing up at Green Hill Beach in RI. She was the wife of the late Robert “Red” Karash, her beloved husband for 51 years. She was also preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers Edward Babcock and George D. Berube, a sister-in-law, Dana (Hellmandollar) Berube, and a niece Catherine Babcock, and 2 nephews, John Babcock and Kenneth Babcock, an uncle John Joseph Lewis Ingham, and a cousin John P. Ingham.


She will be dearly missed by her son Robert G. Karash and daughter-in-law Tonya of Norwich, CT, daughter Nina (Karash) McCarthy of Westerly, RI, two grandsons, Robert "RJ" Karash and Noah Sherman, a brother John Babcock, a brother-in-law Philip Gunther and his wife Roberta, and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and her lifelong friend Diana (Miller) Pothast of Minnesota.


Nina spent her life as a homemaker until her children were grown. She later was proud of her work as a CNA at a couple nursing homes and in Retail at the upscale Wilson's Department Store in Greenfield, MA.


Nina was a member of the Stonington Connecticut Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses for several years where she enjoyed worshiping amongst many that loved her dearly. Nina loved to study the Bible, engage in her ministry, enjoy time with her family (especially at the beach), do shell crafts, and beading. She will be remembered by all for her huge giving heart.
