Norman “Norm” Joseph Potvin

Norman “Norm” Joseph Potvin of Vernon, Connecticut passed away at Hartford Hospital early Friday morning, May 31st 2024. Norm was born to his mother, Mildred Potvin, and father Norman Potvin Sr., on September 10th, 1955. He graduated from Howell Cheney Technical High School in Manchester in 1974,

and soon began his journey to become an electrician. Norm installed lighting for ECI in places such as Penney High School in East Hartford and Gampel Pavilion at the University of Connecticut. He continued to work his way up the ladder until he started his own company, NJP Electric.

The last five years of his life were spent fixing up an old house he and his niece moved in to. There, he taught her how to install outlets, locate studs, and connect wires. They bonded over animals, cars, tools, and corny Sci Fi shows. Norm inherited a quick dry sense of humor, and with two people under a pair of canine eyes and one low ceiling house, one day he finally found a home for his mothers chandeliers. The interior of their garage never looked finer.

When he wasn’t working on a project with his niece or brother-in-law, Norm spent his time catching up with long-time friends, nieces and nephews over the phone, rewatching NCIS, Star Trek Voyager and Discovery, and watching funny bulldog videos on Facebook. He loved old cars, one electric blue Plymouth Barracuda in particular, the race on Sundays, Taylor Swift, the beach, and would often recall fond and hilarious memories of his foremen days. Norm was a sociable introvert, and if you hadn’t heard from him in a while, please know he still had you in his thoughts. He never wanted to be a burden, even if it meant disturbing his own peace.

After a two year battle with cancer, his body decided it was time to rest. Norman was 68 years young, and leaves behind his spunky senior American Bulldog Rux, sister Norma Mathiau and brother-in-law Don Mathiau, sister Carol Gondeck, sister Jo Ann Lavigne and brother-in-law Frank Lavigne, brother Mark Potvin, and niece Heather Potvin.

A celebration of life will be held sometime in July of this year. Family members will be reaching out to friends and family once a date and time has been determined. Please do not hesitate to reach out should anyone have questions.
