Obituary for Mary Knockwood

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Knockwood of New Britain on Tuesday, October 1st, 2024 of at the young age of 55 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mary was predeceased by her precious son Myles Knockwood, and loving Grandparents.  She leaves behind her husband John Knockwood and treasured loving son Victor; Sister Carolyn Ficara, Niece Stephanie Cote, Nephew Steven Cote and many, many friends including special friend Tracy Wasik.

Mary was a graduate of the University of Saint Joseph and had a long successful career in medical billing and bookkeeping.  In addition to enjoying her full-time job at Numotion, Mary also loved her bookkeeping work for Christian Life Church and Boys & Girls Club of Meriden.

Mary especially loved spending time with Victor doing fun activities like going to the movies, bowling, mini-golf, beach, science center, museums, zoos, concerts, plays and Sight and Sounds Theater.  They enjoyed travelling together all over including trips to Maine, Canada and Pennsylvania.

Mary was an expert crafter in quilting and knitting.  She took her knitting everywhere with her.  She would perform the most complex of stiches or patterns while claiming it was relaxing to her and while paying complete attention to whatever else she was doing at the time.  She loved shopping at specialty yarn shops and looked for them in all her travels.  She so enjoyed making beautiful quilts, scarves, shawls, and especially baby blankets to share with family and friends.

Mary was a beloved member of Christian Life Church, Berlin Ct where she enjoyed many volunteer ministry opportunities including leading GriefShare – a grief support group.  Mary touched so many as she lived her faith and was a blessing to all.  She was the constant encourager, caring, loving, selfless, thoughtful, kind, friendly, fun, cheerful, positive, in good spirits with a smile on her face and laughing or joking no matter what challenges and difficulties she faced.  Always thinking about and putting others first.  Everyone who had the privilege of knowing her loved her.

Mary was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, friend and coworker.  She will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her.

Special thanks, appreciation and gratitude to Mary’s Christian Life Church family and ladies of the church (who went above and beyond with care and compassion), family and dear friends for their love, support and all the help provided to Mary and her family during her cancer journey and this very difficult time.

A  Memorial Service “Celebration of Life” will be held at 4.00 PM on Saturday, October 5th, 2024 at Christian Life Church,  496 Kensington Road, Berlin CT.  In addition, there will be a visitation with family hour starting at 3:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society or Christian Life Church.
