(May 4, 1951 - July 13, 2025)
Patricia Susan Benson, loving wife to Barry Benson and beloved mother to Holly Fish of Norwich and Heather Laurie & her husband, Brian, of Oakdale, unexpectedly passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, leaving a void her family will never be able to fill.
Pat was born in Sacramento, CA, and was raised in Norwich, CT. She graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1969. Pat had a passion for bookkeeping and was presently working at Vermont Lumber and Pallet, where she not only worked for her dear friend Jimmy but also met her beloved husband in 1973. Her past employment included time at Keith’s Appliances, People’s Bank, Eastern Bank, and Norwich Savings Society. Pat also served as a firefighter and EMT for the Occum Fire Department for many years.
Pat was a devoted mother to Holly and Heather, her pride and joy. Everything Pat did in this world was for her family, specifically her husband, daughters, and grandchildren. She took great pride in keeping her yard beautiful, and finding peace in the simple joys of life. She loved sitting outside with her husband, watching the birds, tending to her beloved dog, Toby, curling up with a good book, and caring for the wildlife that visited daily. Her love extended not only to people but to every living thing around her. Pat cared deeply for everyone she crossed paths with, and if you were lucky enough to know her, you felt the warmth of her heart of gold. She had a rare and meaningful gift—the ability to make people feel like they truly mattered. Pat was a magnet for people; she spoke to everyone with genuine kindness and made each person feel special. Her soul radiated warmth, and her presence left a lasting imprint on all who knew her. Pat also loved sharing stories from her life, especially her unforgettable experience at the Woodstock Music Festival, hanging out at the Shaboo on weekends with her husband, and the Caribbean cruise she took with her husband and dear friends. She cherished those memories and lit up when she talked about them, reminding us all to embrace life’s adventures and hold onto the moments that make us feel alive.
Pat took special joy in her grandchildren, Chance, Mason, Kyler and Brayden. She was a very loving and dedicated grandmother. Her grandkids were blessed to grow up with her constant support, gentle guidance, and unwavering love. Each one held a special place in her heart, and she was endlessly proud of the young men they were becoming. She celebrated their achievements, supported their dreams, and loved them with all her heart.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents: Armand DuPont, Irene DuPont, and Helen Maxine DuPont (Bates); her beautiful sister, Karen Pignataro; brother, Jack Scott; beloved grandson, Mason Fish; and her son-in-law, Scott Fish. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Barry; daughters Holly Fish and Heather Laurie (Brian), nephew Jody Pignataro (Jillian) of Sterling and grandchildren Chance, Kyler, and Brayden, all who will never forget the love she brought to their lives.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 from 4pm - 7pm at Church & Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem St., Norwich.
