Paul passed away at home on October 5th, with his daughter by his side. A nearly lifelong resident of Plainfield, Paul was an avid outdoorsman for most of his life, especially enjoying fishing, hunting and boating. He was a member of local rod & gun clubs for many years, and believed strongly in gun safety and wildlife conservation. Paul was a veteran of the US Navy, Vietnam era.
Paul resided with, and is survived by, his daughter Jennifer Kelley, daughter-in-law Lori, and beloved granddaughter Ava, the light of his life. He is also survived by his stepson Todd Houston, brothers Matthew and Francis Dapsis, sister Elizabeth Mullen, and niece Christine Laird, who was more like his second daughter, as well as several additional nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by wife Marie, his parents John and Ursula, and siblings Jack, Bill, Ursula, James, Thomas, and David.
Paul was a kind man who could talk to anybody about just about anything. He had a quiet strength that let you know you were safe with him. He worked for decades as an auto mechanic, and even in his later years could sit in his recliner and troubleshoot an engine just by listening. He had a particular fondness for Corvettes and Harley Davidsons, and owned several of each throughout his lifetime.
Paul appreciated the simpler things in life – particularly anything natural. Go outside, breathe deeply, listen to birds sing, feel the warmth of the sun on your face, smell the salty ocean air, appreciate the sound of leaves crunching beneath your feet on a wooded trail. Take a Sunday drive on the back roads, and choose at least one you haven’t been on before. Nothing would please him more. And next time you go fishing, drop a line in for Paul.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 19th, 1:00-4:00 pm, at Masonic Lodge in Moosup, CT. Jennifer and Todd would love if you came with a favorite Paul story to share.
