Peter Benet DeSaulniers 1927-2018

Peter Benet DeSaulniers of Somers passed away on October 2, 2018, at Suffield House after a brief illness. Peter was born on October 24, 1927, in Woburn, Mass to Norma and Clement DeSaulniers.


He is survived by four children, Christopher Benet DeSaulniers (Gordon Gilbreath) of San Diego, CA; Robert (Bob) Benet DeSaulniers of Laurel, MD; Joan Dalton Farley (Steve Farley) of Denver, CO; and, Janet Ann DeSaulniers of Somers. Peter is also survived by his two grandsons Elliot John Nazzaro of Ledyard, CT and Alex Benet Nazzaro of Philadelphia, PA.


He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Ann Thoreen DeSaulniers, his son, William Benet DeSaulniers, and his siblings, Anne Gould, Ben DeSaulniers and Janet Knobloch.

Peter graduated from Niagara University and was an Army Officer in the Korean War. After many years in the restaurant business, he changed careers and worked at C.H. Dexter Paper Company in Windsor Locks for 20 years before retiring in 2001.


Peter will best be remembered as a substitute teacher and volunteer at Somers High School for the last 17 years. He touched many students’ lives while there but he regularly acknowledged how much the students, teachers and staff touched his life.


A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, October 8, 2018, 2-5 p.m., at Joanna’s Restaurant, 145 Main Street, Somers, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations are gratefully accepted. Please make check payable to Somers High School, write “Mr. D’s Scholarship Fund” in the memo, and mail it to Somers High School, 5 Vision Blvd, Somers, CT 06071.
