Peter Macbeth Meier

Peter Macbeth Meier, of Madison, CT, beloved husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on August 24, 2026, at the age of 84.

Peter was born on December 12, 1941, in Buffalo, NY, to Martin and Katherine Pfau Meier. He attended college at the University of Pennsylvania and graduate school at Case Western Reserve University, earning his PhD in Chemical Engineering. He went on to work for Millipore Corporation in Bedford, MA, and moved to Connecticut in 1995 to take a position with Cuno, Inc. in Meriden.

He was a devoted husband to his wife, Cathy Bartels Meier, with whom he shared 54 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they built a family filled with love and laughter. He delighted in his role as a grandfather to his nine grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense joy and pride.

An active member of the North Madison Congregational Church for over 30 years, Peter found a spiritual home there, and his commitment to the church and its values was unwavering. He spent his time singing with the basses in the choir and volunteered for many causes, including serving breakfast at Columbus House, tutoring students at St. Martin de Porres Academy, and mentoring youth for the confirmation program.

Peter had a love of travel and was fortunate to be able to visit all 50 states, as well as many countries around the globe. He cherished time at his vacation home in coastal Maine, where he always seemed to be working around the cabin, but also spent quality time with his children and grandchildren making memories that they will forever hold dear.

Peter spent his life embodying kindness and compassion, known for his quiet acts of generosity and warmth. His gentle spirit was a testament to his belief in doing something nice for others, even when no one was watching. This legacy of kindness was felt by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Cathy; his children and their spouses, Julie (Lance) Abbott, Laura (Hank) Prohaska, and Andrew (Michael Frame) Meier; his sister, Martha (Martin Pelikan) Meier; and his nine grandchildren: Henry, Nicholas, Lauren, Katherine, Paige, Dylan, Ellie, Bennett, and Lila. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Susan (Earl) Meier-Tomkins.

A service to celebrate Peter's life will be held on October 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at North Madison Congregational Church, located at 1271 Durham Road, Madison, CT 06443. Family and friends are invited to gather and honor the remarkable life he led.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the North Madison Congregational Church in memory of Peter Meier.
