R. Frances Phinney

R. Frances Phinney, age 88 transitioned to her permanent home on December 28, 2023.

She was born at home in New Britain, CT on November 30, 1935 to August and Irene Lazzerini. She is survived by her brother Louis Lazzerini and sister Rita Riley.

Her surviving children are daughters: Deb Porretta and her husband Mike; Irene Phinney and her wife Lisa; Grace Taylor and her husband Scott; and son Fred Phinney. She was pre-deceased by her husband Frederick, and sons Leon and Louis.

Frances was lovingly blessed with 13 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Fran remembered each family member’s birth date; a feat the rest of her family admired.

In addition to her biological relatives, Fran considered Deep River Congregational Church to be her second home and the congregation members her extended family.

Fran was a service to others person. She gifted countless hours of creativity, knowledge, wisdom, and labor to church and community projects. She was especially proud of her volunteer service at Middlesex Memorial Hospital where served on the PFAC and ethics committees. In gratitude for her life and service, a special bed on their hospice unit was provided to her in her hour of need.

Fran had the knowledge and ability of artistry and crafts, which are quickly becoming obsolete, yet kept up with modern times and could navigate a computer better than most of the younger generations.

Fran’s most profound legacy was her family, only trumped by her loving and faithful devotion to The Lord and her Church. Her faith was a powerful source of balance and strength that sustained her throughout life as she traversed the inevitable joys and sorrows of the passing years. Her faith was the crux of her loving relationship with her husband, Fred, during their marriage of 55 years.

Everyone who knows and loves Fran can visualize her in Heaven, gliding across the clouds, dancing in the arms of her beloved Fred.
