Richard Richau of West Haven, was born March 3rd 1957. He was called home on September 28th 2024 at the age of 67. He was predeceased by his Father and Mother Clarence (Rick) and Patricia (Molloy) Richau. He was married to his loving wife Lisa (Rapuano) Richau for almost 33 years. He leaves behind his sister Nancy Castorina and her husband Tawne, two daughters Jennifer Donovan, and Kaitlyn Richau, and two granddaughters McKenzie and McKayla Donovan. For the last 8 years his daughter Kaitlyn willingly put her life on hold to take care of him until his final moments.
He was stationed in Hawaii during his 4 years in the Navy. His careers took him on several different paths such as CW MPG in Orange, Circuit Wise in North Haven, finally he went on to work for the Madison School System for almost 14 years as a custodian.
He was an avid sports watcher and had a front row seat in our home to every UConn Basketball games, NFL Football Game, and New York Yankees Baseball game. He loved his five cats more than anything in the world and was willing to help any animal in need of a home or food. He also enjoyed sitting on a bench down at Savin Rock with a Turk’s cheeseburger in one hand and onion rings in the other, and occasionally sharing his meal with a seagull or two. Another favorite pass time of his was getting in the car with his family, packing a lunch, and “Going wherever the car wanted to take us” on the weekends. He knew just how to fill every room in our house with laughter even when it was at his own expense. He never felt like he needed to book a vacation because living on the shore and having seagulls on the front lawn was certainly vacation enough for him. He never thought just one beanie baby was enough for his daughter Kaitlyn, instead he filled the eight-piece sectional with them each time a holiday came, or he’d have to travel for a work trip so she’d have lots of little reminders of him until he returned.
In his final years you could find him sitting in his most favorite spot which happened to be our front bay window, where the sun would pour in every morning and he got to watch the pigeons and doves, waving at all who drove or walked by. His family and cats will take comfort knowing he is watching over them now and though he may no longer be with us, his memory is something we will always keep close to our hearts.
