Susan Holick

Susan (Palladino) Holick, 68, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2026, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, surrounded by love.

Born in Waterbury on November 14, 1957, Susan was the daughter of the late Francis and Marie (McCann) Palladino and a graduate of Kennedy High School.

Susan dedicated much of her life to caring for others, but nothing meant more to her than her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and caregiver. If someone she loved needed her, Susan showed up. Whether it was helping with the kids, being there after school, sitting on the sidelines of a football field, or simply making sure everyone was taken care of, she gave herself completely to the people she loved.

Susan’s family wasn’t simply the most important part of her life—they were her life. Nothing, absolutely nothing, meant more to her than her three daughters and her grandchildren. Being a mother was her greatest accomplishment and the thing she was most proud of in this world. She poured everything she had into her girls, and no matter how old they became, she never stopped being their mom—worrying about them, helping them, showing up for them, and loving them fiercely.

She was immensely proud of her daughters, Cara (Robert Michalski) Jennifer (Raymond Traver) and Kaitlyn (Zachary Samela) and of the families they went on to create. The bond Susan shared with her girls was extraordinary. They weren’t only her daughters; they were her best friends, her greatest pride, and the center of her world.

And then came her grandchildren. If it was possible for Susan’s heart to grow even bigger, it did. Steven, Shea, Aidin, Ashtin, Arjay, and her little angel Ryleigh brought her immeasurable happiness. She wanted to be part of everything—the school days, the sports, the football games, the celebrations, and especially the ordinary, everyday moments. There was nowhere she would rather be than wherever her children and grandchildren were.

They were her purpose, her pride, and her whole heart.

Susan also leaves behind her lifelong friend, Cynthia Scanell. Though not sisters by blood, they were sisters in every way that mattered, sharing a friendship that lasted a lifetime. Cindy has always been family and lovingly known as “Auntie Cindy” to Susan’s girls. Susan also leaves behind her nephew, John Palladino whom she loved dearly.

Susan also cherished her North Purchase community family, where she was always willing to lend a helping hand, share a meal, or simply be there for someone who needed her. Donna, Marie, Bernadette, and so many others became an important and treasured part of her life.

Susan’s family would like to extend a special thank you to her home health aide, Irene, who cared for her with tremendous kindness and compassion and became not only her caregiver, but a wonderful companion and friend. The family is also deeply grateful to the nurses, caregivers, and medical professionals who cared for Susan throughout her illness.

Susan’s absence leaves an immeasurable space in the lives of those who loved her. But the love she gave so freely, the family she was so incredibly proud of, and the countless memories she created will remain with them forever. She spent her life loving her family, and she was deeply and completely loved in return.
