Treva Louise Kendall

Updated: Jul 8, 2024

Treva Louise Kendall, 85, beloved wife of the late Hale “Ken” Kendall, passed away peacefully at home on Friday June 28th, 2024, comforted with the love and support of her health care team.

Born on January 3, 1939 in Russell, Kansas to Samuel and Dora Kessler, she was the youngest of three children. Treva is predeceased by her parents, as well as her brother Richard and sister Marilyn.

Treva graduated from Russell High School in 1957 and went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force from 1960 to 1962 as a transportation agent for both International and transnational flights.

Treva joined Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in 1967 where she worked in the typing pool. Over the next 30 years, she pursued additional training and education which lead to an impressive career as a Senior Quality Engineer until her retirement in 1998 as a Grade 48 FAA Liaison. During a time when very few women were attaining these positions, Treva was a true inspiration and role model to many women and girls, especially to those in her family.

After retirement, Treva went back to school and enjoyed a successful 10- year career in Real Estate.

Her career was just one example of many of what a strong, determined, and devoted woman Treva was.

On March 3, 1967, Treva took another leap of faith and married the love of her life, Hale “Ken” Kendall, and instantly became a stepmother to 6 children, whom she cherished. Treva and Ken were the best of friends and enjoyed life to its fullest together for over 50 years. They loved a good laugh, and their home was always open to friends and family for good, old fashioned quality time. They spent countless hours attending their grandkids’ sporting events and were always so proud to share in all their life achievements.

Treva leaves her 6 stepchildren and their families, Susan and Thomas Orlowski of Manchester; Gary and Judy Kendall of Pomfret Center; Ronald and Mary Kendall of Wethersfield; Cheryl Dreslin of Conyers, GA;  Kevin Kendall of Colorado Springs, CO; and Brian Kendall of East Hartford.  Treva also leaves behind her 9 grandchildren, 8 great- grandchildren and 4 great- great- grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Treva was kind, loving, and so generous in everything she did. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.  She was a lover of cats and always chose a rescue when adding to the family. In lieu of flowers, we hope you will consider making a donation in her memory to the CT Humane Society or a Cat Rescue organization of your choice.

Treva will be laid to rest, together with her husband, at Hillstown Veterans Cemetery in Manchester. The service will be private at a later date set by the family.

Someone so special will never be forgotten for she will always be in your heart. We were truly blessed to know this amazing woman and to spend special occasions with her and Ken. They both knew how to make you smile! Treva has now joined the love of her life, Ken. Condolences to the Orlowski crew and the Kendall family. Pat and Bob

Treva was my aunt and my dad’s sister. As a child, I always looked forward to a visit from Treva and Ken, as they were friendly and fun to talk to. I admired Treva’s Air Force service and her rise to engineer at Pratt and Whitney, quite an accomplishment for a woman at the time. When my family returned from military service overseas, and we were stationed at New London, Treva and Ken always welcomed us and our two small children to their home. I have always had loving feelings for Treva and will miss her presence on this earth.

As a co-worker at P&W with Treva, I found her her strength in an environment that was tough on women to be a great inspiration. She was a generous mentor and a loyal friend. The world was a better place because Treva was in it. I celebrate her life and am saddened by her departure. Blessings to all her loved ones as they bear her loss. ❤️

As one of the oldest Grand Children I was fortunate to get nearly 50 years with Treva as one of my Grandmothers. She was always so caring, kind and loving. Christmas at her and Gramps when we were little were epic events. The woman knew how to throw a party! And I loved being the girl who's grandma drove a Pink Cadillac.

She loved when my kids and I would visit her. We always brought a sweet treat for her sweet tooth and took a nice stroll out into the yard and gardens of her home. We will miss her, but are so glad for the good memories we have. Rest Easy
