It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Waldo E. Lawson. Waldo passed away on May 30, 2026, at Backus Hospital at the age of 69.

Waldo lived in Plainfield, CT with his soulmate, Helen. Waldo and Helen were married for 49 years.

Waldo is survived by his brother Kenny from Georgia, and his sisters Rachael and Cindy from Connecticut. Waldo was a proud father of his daughter Tammy and her husband Jimmy from Lisbon, CT, and his son Brian and wife Jen from Montville, CT. Waldo leaves behind his 12 grandchildren and his two great-grandsons Prince and George. Waldo also leaves behind his brother-in-law Harold from Kansas. He also had his two dogs, Linda and Tinie.

Waldo was a chef at Mohegan Sun for 18 years before he became sick. He loved cooking for his wife and family. Waldo loved watching the Chicago Bears and Boston Red Sox games. Waldo always had to have the last word in. You never had to wonder what he was thinking because he was going to tell you, good or bad.

The last few years Waldo was in a few nursing homes. His final months were spent at Colonial Nursing Home in Plainfield. On behalf of our entire family, we want to thank everyone at Colonial - nurses, CNAs, housekeeping, directory, management - what a great place and fantastic care.

The Backus ICU Unit and any other staff who were a part of Waldo's final days, thank you so much for the support and care.
