William Henry Woodward Sr

William Henry Woodward Sr, 90, known as Bill, passed on the morning of April 19th, 2024.

He was born at home on Mill St, in Southington CT on August 23, 1933, to Johnathan

Woodward and Myrtle Marie Meyers.


Upon graduation from Francis T Maloney High School in Meriden, Bill joined the Air Force

during the Korean Conflict, where he served as a radar operator with the 3903rd Radar Bomb Scoring Group. He left the Air Force in 1968 with the rank of Staff Sargent.

After his discharge he and his wife Margaret returned to his home state of Connecticut with

their four children, William Jr., Marie, Thomas, and Walter. In 1975 he enlisted in the

Connecticut Army National Guard where he served with Company C or the 726th Maintenance Battalion eventually retiring in 1988 as a Master Sergeant.


Bill was an accomplished ancient snare drummer, having achieved initial recognition in his

youth in Meriden. As an adult, Bill was a drummer first with the Plantsville Fife and Drum and

later spent several years as a drummer in Lancraft Fife & Drum Corps.


In 1991 Bill married his surviving wife, Mary Lou Woodward. He retired in 2000 and his

remaining years were spent with his wife, family and his dog Windsor in Watertown, CT

Bill is survived by his son William Jr, daughter Marie, two step sons, Thomas, and Walter. Two daughters-in-law Annie and Lani and four grandchildren, William Thomas, Jake Henry, Brielle, Juliana Woodward, and the extended family of his spouse.
